Well, a friend and I used the Entertainment card on Saturday night to go to Cafe Azure. This is easily the best restaurant that I have been to in Pittsburgh in terms of both food and service. We were there fairly early since we were going to a play afterwards, so maybe that's why the service was so good. (our reservation was for 6:00). Since we didn't have much time, we skipped appetizers and started with a romaine salad tossed in an herb vinaigrette and served with diced tomatoes, cucumbers, and corn, topped with crumbled blue cheese. Then my companion had the pan roasted pork loin which was seasoned with curry and served with whipped potatoes, sauteed tomatoes and some of the best tasting mushrooms I've ever had (and I don't like mushrooms). I had salmon which was served with yellow bell peppers, snow peas and a baklava filled with goat cheese and bacon. We finished off dinner by sharing a dish of fresh berries topped with a kind of custard sauce (very light, and the berries had great flavor). When we got the check, our waiter had given us the discount, plus he gave us back the card unstamped so that we could use it for another visit, and we most definitely will!! I can't wait until the weather is warm enough to sit out on the patio and have dinner.

Cafe Azure
I agree with you almost totally, the service at Cafe Azure is by FAR
the best I've ever experienced. I joked with one of the boys refilling
my water that I wondered if I could drink an entire glass of water
before one of them filled it.
I went to Cafe Azure last Tuesday, Valentine's Day, when they only
had a limited selection of specials. We ordered just a main course,
seeing as they don't accept Entertainment Book discounts on holidays ;),
and it took about 7-8 minutes from when we ordered it to the time they
brought the food out to us. I found the food excellent, however, I
still like Le Monte in Mt. Washington better. The food may be a little
over-priced without the discount, but with the discount, you can't beat
it anywhere in Pittsburgh.
On a side note, if you have the Entertainment Book, check out the
17th Street Cafe in Southside. We went there last Saturday night, and
they had really good food for relatively cheap. I ordered Escargot as
an appetizer (I believe it was $4.99) and thought it would be prepared
in the usual fashion (6 escargot in a garlic/butter sauce with bread),
HOWEVER they brought it out with *12* escargot and bread stuffed with
mushrooms, green/red peppers, as well as onions. Though I didn't like
it as much as garlic/butter alternative, it certainly was good.
17th Street Cafe is a little bit smoky (I don't believe they have a
non-smoking section), but it didn't bother me at all. I found it to be
a rather romantic atmosphere, it is small and dimly lit, especially the
back room. We had a small table for two that was far enough from others
to talk and not disturb others, and not have to worry about others
listening in ;). The wait was approximately 20 minutes. We just sat at
the bar and the time seemed to pass quickly.
RyanBased on the location information, I'd guess you mean Cafe Azure. Cafe Allegro is just off Carson at around 14th St, on the South Side. Both are reputed to be good and fairly expensive, Cafe Allegro rather more so on both counts. It's been over a year since I've been to either, and I believe Cafe Azure has acquired a new chef in that time, so I can't give any input myself. The chef, Amy Henry-Perchiner, has been there for over two years. Recently, however, the ownership changed and the menu was revamped from French-oriented to a more Regional American style. Amy good chef and I love her restaurant. Its one of the better in the city. Check out the review in last month's _Pittsburgh Magazine_ for more info on Azure.
