I think the cognoscienti agree that Quaker Steak & Lube has the best wings
in the area ... but you have to be pretty serious to drive to Sharon just
for wings. (I've done it, but not often ;-).)

'Roos has pretty good wings. I was also pleasantly surprised by BW-3,
newly opened in Shadyside. I really liked their garlic wings and
 spicy-BBQ wings.  (I tend to go for moderately hot, very flavorful stuff;
but if your tastes run to very hot or not at all hot, they have something
 for you too.)

There useta be a fan group around town called Wings Illuminati.
Any of 'em still here? What's the latest word on wings?

                   regards, tom lane

I think the best wings around are at Red River Barbecue. The mild ones
are great, but anything beyond that will blow your face off.

As a wing-deprived former Buffalonian, the best that I've
found in this area are at a little place called Wings, Suds
and Spuds on Beers School Road near the old Pgh. Airport.
They're as good as anything I had in the land of deep snow.
It's hard to get a table there anytime in the evening or at
 lunch unless you go late.

I agree that Quaker Steak's wings are overrated. They're
tasty but must have come off Cornish Game hens -- too
 small.

We found the best wings at The Anchor Inn in Natrona Heights. They are
HUGE and fresh. BIGGEST AND BEST OF ALL THE REST...honest.

Personally, I think Fathead's makes the best wings in Pgh. that I've
tried. A new wing place / bar just opening in Shadyside on Walnut
Street. Called BW-3, not bad wings, great burgers.

Quaker steak and lube has quite an array of wings. their straight
buffalo wings, I will agree are mediocre. You can however get
'combonation wings' in which the mix the sauces. The most delicious
wings I have ever tasted in my life were a combo of QS&L hot sauce and
barbecue sauce. They were fabulous. Not true buffalo wings, yes, but
real savory stick to your ribs type eating. THey also have garlic butter
wings which won some national award, but I have not tasted.

Oh, we're still here. Most of us, at any rate. Finding free time is
 an entirely different matter. :(

Actually, though, I'm in the process of converting the mailing list
over to our listserver, which should make my life slightly easier.
After I fix up the web pages a bit, I plan to launch a membership
drive, and get back on a regular monthly schedule.

As far as wings themselves go... despite the complaints about QS&L's
small wing sizes (most of which are valid), their wings are still
number one in my book. Fat Heads also has excellent wings, as does
Kangaroo's. Mad Mex's wings are tasty, but limited to only 3
 varieties (Buffalo, Mexican Buffalo, and San Francisco, I believe);
however, they'll put some additional kick in the "insanes" if you
specifically request it. Aussie's isn't too bad, but unless they've
changed their policy, the only flavors that are available during the
$0.20/wing times are mild, medium, and hot, with the first two being
tasty but not hot and the latter being hot but not tasty. :( We tried
Wings, Suds, and Spuds a while ago; their wings were good as far as
taste, but were served in lakes of sauce and had no heat whatsoever
(even after we spent extra to get them "extra hot"). Perhaps enough
time has passed that we'll give them a second chance. Grand Slam
Pizza and Wings looked promising, but they're (essentially) take-out
only. The Rib House's wings were okay, but the owner closed down to
go back to school (I think - ?), and it was essentially take-out only
 as well.

Mileage (and opinions) may vary, of course. ;)

Several of the places mentioned so far in this thread (e.g., BW-3) we
haven't hit yet and/or didn't know about, so we're looking forward to
 checking 'em out.

10 cent wings all the time... and they're good, too.
