Last Friday I had some errands to run after
work, one being to pick up some Asian ingredients
at the Asian Center in Wilkinsburg. While there
I saw the sign for goat meat over the freezer and
began to crave Jamaican goat curry. So I thought
I'd stop at Negril Caribbean on the way home and
get some take-out. Not! They're out of business!
So I turn around and head back down Penn to the
other Carib. restaurant where Harvey's used to be.
Damn! They're out of business too, it seems. So
by now I'm *determined* to have my goat and eat
it too. So I decide to go all the way back to E.
 Liberty to Bally's.

*They*, I'm pleased to report, are still in
 business. (Donsville's Jamaica, Jamaica is
still there, too.) So I see this big kettle
grill on the sidewalk out front. I go in and
ask the guy what's with the grill outside.
 Turns out they're cooking "chicken-on-a-stick".
$2 a pop. So I say I'll have the goat curry,
2 patties (one beef and one chicken), a ginger
beer, and one chicken-on-a-stick for my appetizer.
Boy was that chicken good. Very well done but
still moist and succulent and the sauce is not
killer hot, just sweet, tangy, and peppery.
Delicious! I was not as crazy about their
goat curry. Maybe next time I'll go to Jamaica,
Jamaica for that. But it was edible and more
or less satisfied my goat cravings. And I really
like their patties. Better than I've had anywhere
else. I took home half of the goat (came with
rice and peas and stewed cabbage and carrots) and
the 2 patties, because there was so much meat
on the chicken thing. It is really a great
bargain. Had the leftovers for dinner on Sat.
(Normally I would have had them for breakfast
but I went out to breakfast with my aunt.)

So, what's with all the Carib. restaurants
in Wilkinsburg going out of business? I had
dinner with some friends the weekend before
last. They're from Trinidad. They got take-out
from a Carib. place called Caribbean Corner.
Anyone know where this place is? I thought they
said it was in Wilkinsburg but it might be
in E. Lib. They live in Stanton Heights so
 E. Lib. would be closer and more likely.

Caribbean Corner is in Wilkinsburg on Penn Avenue. It's on a corner
and I can't remember the cross street but it seems to me it was close to
where Negril was but away from Swissvale Avenue. I've never been there
but was curious as to the quality of the food. The location used to be
a sandwich shop and seemed to have a few different businesses over the
past ten years. Although, I believe this restaurant has been open 2 or
more years. I drive down Penn Avenue during my commute so I see it
daily, and maybe, tonight, I'll see what the cross street is.
