First, thanks to the few people who commented on my request for info on
Tuscan Inn and Arrostaria in the north North Hills. We decided to try
Arrostaria and I thought I'd share the experience:

We went Friday evening, arriving shortly before 6:00. We were seated
immediately (even when we left an hour later there was seating
available). It is a fairly open and casual setting, with a large bar
area in the middle. The kitchen is partially open to the seating area
 (behind a large counter).

We skipped appetizers and drinks (still keeping those New Year
resolutions), and each ordered a pasta dish. My wife ordered stuffed sea
shell pasta with a tomato sauce topping and I ordered chicken vegetable
manicotti (grilled chicken breast pieces and steamed broccoli over the
manicotti with a tomato sauce). Each came with a house/dinner salad.

The salad was fresh. The homemade creamy Italian dressing was quite good
(oer my wife) as was the vinagrette. Warning: no low-fat dressing here
yet. The salad was accompanied by a delicious Tuscan bread.

The entrees were delicious and well presented, although the server warned
us about the "hot plates" which in fact were room temperature. The food,
however, was hot. The sauce was very tasty, the cheese fillings just
right (not overly stuffed or cheesy), and the chicken on broccoli were
 fresh and well-prepared as well.

We then order two capuccinos "with a splash" ($2.95 each) after dinner.

The total bill was $27 and change (not including the tip). This was the
best valued, most reasonably priced restaurant I have been to since
moving to Pittsburgh a year ago.

Arrostaria, on Route 8 about 1 1/2 miles south of the Turnpike in Allison
Park. In the Coventry Square shopping plaza, phone: 487-3900.
 Recommended.

The only thing I can add to your review is that you missed what we
consider to be their best dish. Their special ravioli (not sure of the
exact name) is unbelievable. The meat and cheese filling is a perfect
 blend.

And, I agree with your assessment of their bread. The greatest!

There's also an Arrostaria on Route 19 about 3-4 miles South of the
South HIlls Village mall. It was good when I was there a few months
 ago.
