We finally found the Allegheny Brew Pub, home of Penn Pilsner. It's
across from the Heinz plant on the North Side, on Troy Hill Road. Good
German food (except they used all-American-style glasses for the beer)
 and it's not terribly expensive.

I agree, the food was pretty awful but the beer was excellent. For great
German food, try Kleiner Deutschmann in Springdale.

 What, your German friends stink?
 Sorry, Julio, couldn't resist.

For better German food, try Otto's in Dormont (W.Liberty Ave. at Banksville
Rd.) or Kleiner Deutschman in Springdale. The atmosphere of the latter is
a distinctive overdone German cliche that's homey enough not to feel overdone.
I know that doesn't make much sense -- just go try it.
