I happened to be in Portland on Saturday, and had dinner at Jake's. I wasn't very hungry, so as my companions scarfed down full meals, I ordered the small Caesar salad (not the one with seafood) and the salmon cakes appetizer. With the great bread they serve, it was more than enough to fill me up, and came to about $11. Very yummy. If they'd been offering the hazelnut-encrusted catfish I had there last year, though, I would have *had* to have ordered that instead.

Good to know Jake's is part Of McCormick & Schmick's. I haven't been there for decades (literally) and was wondering where I could get Jake- like food in Seattle (I like Elliot's Oyster House, but it's more expensive than Jake's). Do the local McCormick's have the Bag of Chocolate dessert?

Here are some I like:
Higgins - Chef made Heathman hotel a place to eat and has had this place for a few years

The best restaurant area is 21st off Burnside and there are a bunch of good places there. Here are a couple of my favorites:

Wildewood Diner
Paley's Place

Enjoy

Just got back from a week in Portland. Place I liked best was the South Park seafood restaurant. Ate in the bar two nights, had two Blue Marlin entrees that were... for lack of more creative terms... GREAT.

Service was perhaps a bit lackluster... but I was sitting at a fairly busy bar. Dunno what it'd be like in the Dining Room.

The place is around 9th & Salmon(?) (I'm reasonably sure of that address).

Also had a pretty good meal at Jake's Grill (not Jake's Crawfish Restaurant), which is part of the McCormick & Schmick chain. Darn good lambchops. Probably more food than necessary, but it was wonderful.

You can get in and out of South Park for about $40 a plate. A bit more at Jake's.

Next time I'm in Portland, first dinner will be at South Park again.

One of our favorite places is Cafe Des Amis on the northwest edge of downtwon. French, good service, relaxed atmosphere, small. My favoite dish is the poached salmon in cream reduction...
