You can see it from 30 on the south side of the highway). Excellent food and atmosphere. Surrey Inn -- In Ashland. Probably the nicest restaurant in Ashland. On Claremont Ave, about 1/2 mile south-west of downtown -- just south-west of the college Mansfield also has the typical "nice" chains, Red Lobster, Chi-Chi's, etc. These are mostly located west of the city near the going towards ontario/cresline on Rt 30. (across from the big auto plant). Email me for specifics -- I grew up in this area. -cpf [email removed]

Also, in the area is the not-quite-as-nice but still pretty good "Christofer's on the Hill". West of Mansfield are the Brown Derby and Chris's steak house or something like that. Both are on 309. My wife and I went to Chris's steak house a couple of weeks ago for our anniversary and really enjoyed it. Some others to consider, all on the western side, are Damon's, Ryan's, The Olive Garden and another steak place (I can't remember the name) at the intersection of W 4th and 309 about 1 mile off of Rt 30. I would recommend reservations for any of these places except Red Lobster which doesn't take reservations. I, too, can give you directions by email or by phone (I work in Columbus and live near there but grew up on the western side of Mansfield (<1 mile from Red Lobster and Chi-Chi's).
