Try Jim's Open Kitchen in Solon. That's on the east side of Cleveland
about 20 miles out. The place is on Aurora Rd. (SR 43) just west of SR 91. I do believe that this easily fits the diner/greasy spoon category.

NANCY'S is better than a diner. It's in the near north side of Columbus on High Street. It's mostly counter seating and they serve only one choice of meal a day (with a substitute that's usually chili or soup and grilled cheese sandwich.) The main course always has huge portions and is something like pot roast, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and beverage and is about $3.95. The regulars go behind the counter and help themselves to beverage refills and (honest to god!) pay their own bills in the register drawer which is always left open! The owner dishes up the main courses and I've heard her tell college student patrons who asked for double mashed potatoes and skip the peas that they'll eat their peas and like it! AND the food is great! The place is a hoot! Judy

When in Columbus, try Stan's Restaurant on Westerville Road (Route 3) just north of Morse Road. It's closed on Mondays. People love their fish sandwiches and cream pies. They serve the other usual "home cooking" fare.
