Salem Tavern (In Old Salem, right?) is probably not the nicest
restaurant in W-S, but it is a rather interesting place. the place is over two hundred years old and the menu and decor brings the simple moravian existence of its period to life. beer and wine are served, in moderation, of course. the food is early american (roasts, fish, vegetables, good bread). take her and her parents there--they'll love it.

i haven't spent much time in the triad lately, but i did grow up in high point. it used to be that Staley's was the nicest restaurant in W-S; if you guys want a steak AND her old man's paying, go to Staley's on Reynolda Road. IF you're a salad bar fiend--Sam's Gourmet on Stratford Road has the Mother of All Salad Bars.

Greensboro-Franklin's on (off?) Friendly used to be the rage, Market Street West is a decent place, i don't remember others that i could still vouch for. none of these would lure me from W-S for one night out.

Salem Tavern is a high payoff/low risk place to take these people. Go.

Sam's Gourmet has been closed for sometime, if memory serves. The BEST restaurant in Winston-Salem is the Zevely House, on 4th st.near downtown. The house itself was moved from the Old Salem area. It is on the expensive side but well-worth it.
