These have national reps, real chefs and good food. Main courses max out at $20. Other good places are: Henry's Bistro, New Orleans Cookery, Pop's, Hong Kong(dim sum on Sat. and Sun.), Fortune Garden (Thai), and maybe a few other places that aren't leaping to mind. These places are all in Chapel Hill and Durham. Raleigh is a relative desert.

It's relatively expensive, but worth every penny. The food is I guess what would be called "fusion". In Raleigh Margaux's is very good and also fairly expensive. More or less French-type food. The Fearington House in Fearington is also quite nice. They have a more or less continental-type cuisine. I don't live in the area so I'm not totally updated on too many restaurants. I must say that the local culinary situation is lightyears better than it was 25 years ago when my parents moved there (MacDonalds and Barbeque if you were lucky...) If you have WWW access, try NandO (the local newspaper). They often have a section with restaurant reviews and recommendations. Betsy
