Actually, how is the pizza there. Haven't had the pizza there, but the subs are okay. The Italian Stallion is something to reckon with. Additions to previous comments: - Near the 55/54 intersection, head south about one mile to Greenwood Commons. Jacarandas (Mexican, not a favorite), Tandoor Indian (very good), Sarah's Empanadas (good), Fortune Garden (better Thai than Chinese), LeCoco (no experience), Park Dinner (excellent, mostly American but good variety). - Near the 55/54 intersection, head north about 1/2 mile to China One, my favorite Chinese in the area. - Or, head west on 54 from intersection of Fayetteville and 54 to Woodcroft Plaza (about two miles). Yamazushi (OK Japanese), West 94th St. Pub (reputed to have good food), ???? Mexican (acceptable), Pulcinella's (good Italian, excellent pizza).

recommendation in Durham (sort of)

Hmmm.....You could get off at the next exit just east of the Fayetteville Rd exit on I-40 which is the Hiwy 55/54 exit. There are lots of restaruants south of I-40. For the money, you can't beat Golden Corral which is about 1 mile S of I-40 on Hiwy 55. If you go on past Golden Corral, there's a nice Mexican Restaurant Called Jacarandas in a Shopping Center on the right. Also, there's LeCoco's I believe in the same shopping center.. If you go 2 exits east of Fayettville Rd, you can get off Davis Rd and go to the Radisson Governors Inn. They have a really nice lunch buffet but it might be a little pricey. > >Further, can we get to downtown Durham without going back to 40 and >taking the Durham Freeway up there? You can if you don't mind going thru some rough sections. Either Fayettville Rd or Hiwy 55 (Alston Ave) going north will take you eventually to the Durham Freeway. Dave Raleigh, NC
This was a good post and it included most of the restaurants I would recommend in the area. A couple of additions: 1. I think that sushi/coffeehouse everyone's been raving about is near 54/55. Java Republic? Haven't been there, but see earlier posts. 2. There is a WONDERFUL pasta shop in the Harris Teeter shopping plaza at 54/Fayetteville Road. It is called Extrusions. They don't sell prepared dishes (only the fresh pasta & sauce refrigerated) yet, but last time I was there they said they were opening a restaurant next door soon. My husband and I have been known to grab a loaf of focaccia and a cannoli there for dinner, in lieu of fast food. Cynthia D.
