Okay, the wife was out of town earlier this week, so on a lark I took the boys to Kemp's seafood. My jones for shrimp had really been getting to me, and the curiousity about Kemp's had topped out.

They've certainly got the look down -- it's like they picked up a seafood joint from Calabash and dropped it in RTP. Since it was 5:30 on a Monday, the place was kind of quiet, but the hostess was nice enough to seat me, my 3 year old, and my 16-month old a little out of the way...

Pretty good service. Very good hush puppies. Average tea.

We decided to split a four-item fried combo platter for $16.95: crab cakes, shrimp, scallops, and catfish, with sides of fries and slaw (no comments on my children's nutrition, please).

It turned out to be more food than the three of us could eat combined (yikes!). The catfish was terrific, the shrimp and the scallops were great, but I don't know that I'd get the crab cakes again. We actually got two large strips of catfish, which surprised me, and it was my favorite item of the night.

For somebody whose litmus for local fried seafood is the Farmers Market Seafood Restaurant, this was a notch or two better, and my kids can't wait to take mom back there.

Directions: Corner of US 70 and Page Road, maybe five minutes outside the Outer Loop.
