Henry's Bistro - Tapas menu

Henry's Bistro (Rosemary St., Chapel Hill) has a new menu that's billed as "tapas."

But if you're expecting the traditional little Spanish dishes (shrimp and garlic, potato "tortilla" pie, Spanish sausage, asparagus wrapped in ham, pig's ears, etc.), forget it. Henry's "tapas" are dishes of the same type that have always been on Henry's menu, only in smaller portions (and for a lower price, about $4 to $7 each).

For example, shrimp and noodles with Thai spices, crostini with olive tapenade and smoked mozzarella, smoked salmon with blue corn chips and a pumpkin-seed-chipotle "dip" (more the consistency of tabouli).

Quite tasty, and reasonably priced, but definitely not Spanish tapas. I wish Cucina Rustica had been able to survive. (Also, a real tapas bar would offer a selection of sherries -- the canonical drink with tapas -- but Henry's has only the so-called "Dry" Sack.)

They still offer three or four full-sized entrees, too, including their perennial "Paris, Texas, Steak au Poivre".

By the way, the kitchen Saturday night was extremely slow. The place certainly wasn't excessively busy; we went at about 7:15 pm and it much was less than half full.
