Working near there for 14 years and eating out every day, I have some definite opinions.... 1. Jamaica Jamaica is the best food in the area. Start with their sampler. I like their vegetarian plate...white rice, mixed beans and their wonderful stewed cabbabe for $4. and they have live jazz at lunch a couple of days a week wed/thu/fri. 2. China One is great. Limited but good buffet weekdays. very good dim sum weekends. 3. Fuji has great sushi. especially their rainbow roll. 4. The best pizza in the area is Randy's, a bit away on MLK parkway near the harris teater behind south square. 5. The chinese restaurant near the Bombay Grille and Sal's pizza (i think it is China Express) is also fantastic. Have been eating there for 10 years...great fresh ingredients, and the best tasting/value in the area is their Jan Pong, a large bowl of broth, with pasta like noodles and chock full of sea food and vegetables for $6.25, enough for two. 6. Capi's at the Amoco station is very good for subs. the best sub bargain around. 7. Sara's Empenadas is a fun lunch, down 55. 8. The Park Diner is excellent. Try their chili in the hollowed out loaf of bread. 9. Fazzoli's for fast Italian food is pretty good and cheap. 10. if you have a family, the golden corral is great value for family dining. 11. Sal's pizza has a buffet dinner a couple of nights a week that is pretty good for the money. Note that there are no high end restaurants in this area. I would avoid some places.... The Ginger Inn (under new management) has the worst meal I have ever had in the triangle. The Chinese/Thai restaurant between the Park Diner and Sara's Empenada's (don't know the name of this place) has lousy chinease AND thai. The philly cheesesteak place is mediocre. good luck. mark dibner Someone wrote: > We just moved to the Parkwood neighborhood in southern Durham after living > in central Durham for a long while, and are just getting to know the > restaurants in that part of town.
