We ate there during the first week it was open and thought it was very good. The portions were surprisingly large. I had a salad with salmon and capers and it was very good. Cactus Flower
Conversely, we have been there several times and each time were disappointed in what we got. Found the food to be "chanish" (aka Darryl's, Applebees, etc.) at best. But then again, that was only our opinion.

>Some friends went there for a work group monthly birthday lunch. As they have done each month for years at restaurants all over town, they brought a birthday cake with them. Cactus Flower added $2 / head charge for *not* buying dessert there. $40 for eating a $6 cake! Now, granted, if I were a restaurant owner, I wouldn't be thrilled about patrons bringing in their own food. But I think if I'd served a large group lunch, I'd try to grin and bear it, and that was exactly what every other restaurant the group has visited over the years has done. In fairness, I should report after complaints, the manager removed the charge.
My husband and I have been there twice already. The food and portions are really good! I had the vegetable monte cristo the first time, and the roasted vegetable southwestern wrap the second - both were excellent. The first time we went was a Saturday afternoon, after Christmas shopping. It was pretty dead. We decided to meet there for lunch that coming week. We met there last Wednesday at around 12:30 and it was PACKED. We got seated fairly quickly, but it was very crowded! I would recommend it. The service was not exceptional both times, but not bad. The food was really great and large portions. Lunch prices, as I remember, were ~6.95 - 8.95. We had to wait about a half hour (on Monday evening around 7 PM). I had the southwestern vegetable wrap (which is an appetizer) and it was really tasty, with a chipotle pepper sauce that had a little bite. It was plenty big for me. Their actual entrees appeared to be enormous. My husband had a southwestern chicken wrap entree which was huge (and tasty). Guests had nachos and quesadillas. They were all good. Onion rings were not a high point, but weren't bad. They have Guinness on tap, which is always a high point in my book. All in all, it was pretty good. Service was fine. I just don't like waiting for a seat during the week, but I guess that means they're doing well. Katie Our e-mail address has been modified to derail those dreaded spammers. We went there last night and thought it was great! It was a Monday night, and we had no wait. Service was very good. All of our food was brought out quickly, and our waitress was very pleasant. It was a little more expensive than what I was expecting, but that was fine. Our meal (two entrees, one dessert, one margarita) was 44$ before tip. The breads were delicious - a basket of Texas toast, raisin bread, a white roll, a jalapeno corn muffin, and some kind of pesto pizza bread roll. All were good. We got seconds on the corn muffins and Texas toast. Our entrees were great. I had the blackened mahi mahi wrap. It was delicious - very spicy. My husband had the St. Louis ribs with fries. He said the ribs were very well cooked. I ate his peanut cole slaw, and it was quite tasty. For dessert we split the Mile High Mud Pie. It was a good thing we split it and didn't get separate desserts. It would have fed 3-4 people. We couldn't finish it, but it was quite good. The only so-so thing was the margarita. I've had better. The music probably would not have appealed to everyone - Led Zeppelin, Lynard Skynard, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and will certainly go again. Overall, it was great! ann On Fri, 18 Dec 1998 15:42:06 -0500, "Sue S." wrote: > >I read today's review of Cactus Flower (new restaurant on Edwards Mill Rd >behind Crabtree Mall) and was wondering if anyone had been there yet, and >what opinions of it were floating around... > >Thanks. > >Sue S.
