Doug nailed this one. The only better BBQ -I've- had is at Bullock's, in Durham, NC. And it's an altogether different food than anything in Texas.

The Salt Lick. Even within city limits, I'd take Bongo's over The County Line.

well, i must put in my Vote for Coopers in Llano. granted its a bit of a drive, but well worth the trip. As for in town. I like Iron works. Haven't been to Sam's yet tho I want to go. Wouldn't step into county line... ew...

Cooper's, a bit expensive yes, but heavenly, not mediocre. It's real Texas style BBQ served Texas style, not sit down, be waited on and impress your in-laws from New England like the County Line.

*Rudy's*??? BWAHAHAHAHHAAHAAHA consistency in being inconsistent. I hope you meant RUBY'S....

My choices:
1) Cooper's in Llano, avoid the one in Round Rock, though. Maybe
   that's where went...
2) Lexington BBQ, Lexington, NC, best pulled pork, OK it's far from
Austin but it's heavenly as well...
3) Louie Mueller's
4) Kruez, but dangit I want the option of sides and sauce...

Yeah so it matches the Top 3 in Texas Monthly MAgazine, but they're onto something, I'm telling you!
