I thought I would share about a dozen of our favorite restaurants...not the well-known ones (e.g., Nana's or Magnolia) but some more off the beaten path...Mostly in the Durham/RTP/CH axis (e.g., not raleigh) 1. Jamaica Jamaica in Triangle Square (Hwys 54 and 55)...not fancy, but great food. Just the beans and rice and cabbage are great, but also good is jerk or curried chicken, or try their sampler platter. 2. West 94th St Pub in Woodcroft Shopping Ctr. A little smoky and small, but great food. 3. Sushi at either Sushi-Yoshi (in CH, where Hello Deli used to be) or in Cary at Little Tokyo. For that matter, the Harris Teeter on MLK Parkway south of Southsquare has its own sushi chef and the takeout sushi is fresh and inexpensive. 4. Diner food (e.g., the turkey platter) at Owens 501 diner or their new Broad St. Diner. 5. Sara's Empanadas..south of hwy 54 on Hwy 55, (near the Triangle Diner)...if they are serving the arroz con pollo the day you are there..try it. othewise try ther empanadas and flan. 6. Dim sum at the chinese restaurant on Chapel hill Blvd in Durham, across from Southsquare (i forget the name although i have been there about 5 times) Almost as good is the Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant''s Dim Sum on guess rd. 7. Sandwiches from Capi's (aka 'the BP Station' although it is now an Amoco) down Hwy 55 from RTP...great subs at low prices. 8. Satisfacton still has the best pizza...try sausage, muschroom and artichoke hearts. (brightleaf square) 9. Next door is Taverna Nikos, great greek fod (Spartacus is good, but highly vriable and service is so so) 10 Near there is Suman's Indian Cuisine...great Indian food. 11. Margaret's Cantina in Timberlyne (or is it Tymberline?) shopping center in CH. Great southwest foods. 12. where to end??? well how about some of the more tried and true places...shrimp over cheese grits at Crooks, any pasta dish at Parizade, ribs at Red Hot and Blue, a steak au poivre at Pops, appetizers at Nana's... and for dessert and coffee...Mad Hatter in Erwin Square. Any more you want to add?
