Sally,
I lived in Cooperstown for a few summers (back in the late '80's) so I can't guarantee current accuracy but.....

The Pepper Mill on rt. 28 just as you come into town was quite good with a large salad bar and good homemade bread.

T.J's on Main Street right downtown is a branch of the T.J's in Springfield Center (10 miles to the north), both serving decent, hearty meals. Lots of thick mashed potatoes, thick gravy, and thick homemade bread. The original owner sold the business back in 89 or so but it seems to have changed little. Hint, the one north of town (on River Road just before Springfield Center) has a more authentic roadhouse feel. The downtown one had a baseball theme and is crawling with baseball tourists.

The Bold Dragoon has good basic Pub Fare.

I heard that the Dinner at the Pratt Hotel was good but never had it myself.

In nearby Oneonta is Brooks Ribs -- you can see the smoke from the open pit from miles away -- well worth the trip as well as The Farmhouse (on Rt. 7) which is fabulous and is beautifully situated in (you guessed it) an old farmhouse.

Again, these are dated observations so you may want to take them with a grain of salt.

Good Luck.
