Hi David, I live in Suffolk County and am in the food business. For seafood you can go to any of the little seafaring towns and pretty much bet they will all have the same thing. Northport is one of the most picturesque of these towns and they have a restaurant on the water (Woodbine Ave. 261-8538) called the Sea Shanty. Everything there is FRESH but with the exception of a few stuffed dishes everything is broiled or fried. Coffee is great, desserts are all homemade, beer and wine only. If you prefer ice cream for dessert, there is a choice of many homemade ice cream parlors to choose from while you stroll down the completely uncommercialized dock, or if you're in town on a Thurs, night, enjoy the free concert in the park green gazebo (which is right there). Expect a wait, as there are only 11 tables and no reservation policy. If you're in the mood for Italian, you can't beat La Capinnina in Northport, 688 Ft. Salonga Rd. (25A) 261- 1188. This is pure, continental Northern Italian with the finest ingredients to be had. Tues-thurs(?) they offer a price fix menu of five courses (each with a grand selection) for $22.00!!! It's incredible, and with an extensive wine list. In Port Jefferson, in the village off of Main Street is Pasta Pasta, they have good seafood specials but skip dessert there, it's artificial and stale tasting, usually. The entrees are fabulous, filling, inventive, and the price is right. Good house wines and a very pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. If you don't mind snotty service people and a $45.00 price fix you should give Panama Hatties in Huntington on Jericho Turnpike a try. They also use only the finest ingredients and the executive chef (Blake Verity) and The sous Chef (Matt Hisinger) are geniuses of style and composition. Notable wine list and an iterior that will make you feel like you are really going out somewhere. You can get almost the same thing there for lunch but for $20.00 less per person. Brunch is substandard at $18.00 a crack. Mirabelle in St. James has recieved consistantly good writeups but I find it to be hit or miss, overpriced, zero atmosphere, great wine list. Well, good luck and bon appetit!

Head west a bit to Massapequa and visit Big Daddy's just off Sunrise Hwy. The best cajun and southern food you can imagine. I recently spent 4 days on LI and ate there every night.

Expect a LONG wait on weekends, better to just go weekdays. The word is out and this place is really hot right now. Chef John Gelinas and wife Loretta used to co-own the Bayou in Bellmore.
