Ok, I went to University of Rochester in Upstate NY, and the staple up there is a late night joint known as NICK TAHOU's: Home of the World Famous GARBAGE PLATE. If you want to know what's in a GARBAGE PLATE.... 2 Cheeseburgers (or Hot Dogs, or a steak, or pork chops, ham, fish...basically anything) with Hot Mustard, Onions, and something known as "Hot Sauce" (rumored to be just grease, or chili meat) slapped on top of them Served on top of a bed of HomeFries, Macaroni Salad (Baked Beans are Optional) Served with Fresh Italian bread and slabs of Butter and PEPSI (no coke) It is without a doubt the biggest pile of grease ever made...But boy is it Tasty, I don't know of a single person that doesn't miss them. Anyhoo, Are there any late night Grease Pits like this in DC?? Actual places that serve you a burger so tasty that you know you'll regret in the morning?? I love Burrito Brothers (spinach).....but once in a while you just need a good ole Greasy Hamburger. Any info would be greatly appreciated. -GOOSE

Late Night GREASE PITS in DC??

I went to school a year there. Rochester must be the home town of greasy restaurants. I was up there with my kids this summer and we dined at Don's Original and at Sal's Birdland. Along with the Wings that spread out from Buffalo it's great. For this area I can recommend the Vienna Inn. Chili Docgs are their specialty but their food is very very greasepit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Julie Holm (ENTP)| DoD #1604 AMA#397939 UKMC# 0001 VOC# 4672 [email removed] | 1985 Virago 700 "Maureen" | I'm home at http://www.ziplink.net/~holm NGG Webmistress | Remember the PINK PAGES are always changing (Just and Armourer | like a Nasty Girlie's mind!) | NGG home page http://www.ziplink.net/~holm/ngg/ngg.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a great greasy spoon and I highly recommend it. If you do go late at night, though, be prepared to share the space with club kids coming back from clubs (and coming down from drugs). --Paul

It is located on Columbia Pike in Arlington County, near the intersection of South Courthouse Road and Columbia Pike. If he's cooking say hi to Greg Bolton (He's the diner's owner). BTW, if you like late-night pizza and subs, try Mario's Pizza House on Wilson Blvd just before the Clarendon section of Arlington. Bon Appetit!
