There's a Mexican place near Walden Galleria (at Consumer's Sqaure I think) that is good. Prices are moderate. Sorry but the name escapes me right now.

On second thought, Vanessa, in the interest of fairness, I thought I'd better add a few more to those I thought of off the top of my head. There are a lot of places I haven't been, and I'm sure many of them are great, but I'm only listing the one's of been in the past year or so (as you can see, we eat out a lot).

In Buffalo: Biac's, Billy Ogden's, the Metropolitan, Preservation Hall Vegetarian Cafe, San Marco, Vito's.

In Tonawanda: Old Man River's (the one on Niagara Street, on the river).

In Cheektowaga, right next to the Buffalo airport: Flying Tigers.

In Clarence: Asa Ransom House.

In Amherst: Daffodil's, the Audubon Room, Sezchuan House.

In Williamsville: the Creekview.

In Niagara Falls: Fortuna's Deluxe, the Como.

In Lewiston: the Clarkson House.

All do whatever they do really well! Try some, or all, and have fun!
I don's think you'll get bored with the food for a while.

Ah, restaurants in Buffalo. One of my favorite subjects. :) Here's a few to get you started: Italian: Chef's (small menu, but great food) - downtown. LaBella Sicilia (Cheektowaga) - grungy family place. Awesome antipasto and stuffed shells. Both of these are inexpensive. French/fancy: Rue Franklin downtown, Fanny's in Amherst. Chinese: New York, New York on Niagara falls Blvd. My absolute favorite is Ming Teh in Fort Erie - well worth the drive. Mexican: the little place at the corner of Bailey and Winspear near the Main St. campus. I'm blanking on the name. Ice cream: Jenny's in Williamsville Greek: the Towne - downtown in Allentown. Pancakes: I think it's called the Old Pancake House on Main St. in Williamsville. Try the apple pancake. Deli: Mastman's kosher deli. More for take-out. Great corned beef. Thai: Jasmine on Niagara Falls Blvd.

And for wings, be sure to try the Anchor bar, where they were originated. They have good Italain food and great fried green peppers also.

That should get you started.
Let me know if there's anything I didn't cover.

I would second all of the above (especially the Ming Teh) & add the following:

Billy Ogdens: William & Ogden Sts, Buffalo $ to $$$ - very extensive menu, daily specials board Just Pasta: Bryant St, as the name implies, plus GREAT desserts $$ ZuZons: Main St. Williamsville $$ Fiddleheads: Don't recall the address, in Allentown though $$$ Kunis: Elmwood Ave, best sushi in town $$ for Ice cream, I would also add Andersons custard (multiple locations) $ for Mexican, dunno of a place that fits the above location, but I would watch for Grandma Moras on Niagara St $. to reopen (they had a fire). In the mean time, there's a new place called Taco Loco (Loco Taco?) $ a bit North (30 min or so) of Buffalo in Olcott, NY (SP? - it's on Lake Ontario, a bit past Lockport). The owner has been involved with Mexican food since he was a street vendor as a kid in Mexico & the food is worth the drive.

Umm, while not exactly "fine dining" the ubiquitous "Friday Fish Frys" are some of the best values in town - several are pretty good.

I also like the Dakota Grill $ Lunch $$ dinner, in the plaza on the corner of Sweethome & Maple.

Hope this helps

Now I remember! The Mexican restaurant I am thinking of is called "El Charro". It's worth a visit. Try the chili rellenos or the empanadas.
