Little Venice (Chenango Street). This Italian place has wonderful homemade pasta and sauce, great bread, and is a hoot besides. They have zillions of paintings all over, and it's a great place for families. Lupo's Char Pit (State Street). This is the place to stop for the great local delicay, spiedie. It's charbroiled marinated lamb, pork, beef, or chicken (a new fad) on a skewer. You place the skewer of meat in italian bread and pull it off and eat! Binghamton has a Spiedie Fest every August in Otsiningo Park.

I can't remember the name of this hole-in-the-wall, but it's on the Main drag between the Courthouse (can't miss it--Broome County CH) and the river. Several interesting-looking exotic cuisine places on the street. Place I tried feature homemade pierogi and other Polish dishes. It's a tiny, hole-in-the-wall place. Clean, cheap, tasty, authentic. Look around: You'll find it. Also try the hot dog vendor on the park at the BC courthouse. Carl Desens
