There is a famous old restaurant in Mesilla, a suberb of Ls Cruces. It's named La Posta and it's worth a visit. It was a Butterfield stage stop during the Billy the Kid days, and the Billy the Kid bar is across the street. I've been going there for, believe it or not, 50 years and although the food hasn't always been great, it usually has been memorable. Also a big collection of parrots and macaws in the foyer. Wallss are six foot thick adobe - quite a place.

Cheers,
Phil

I haven't been to Roswell for about a year and Carlsbad even longer, but the local place we liked in Roswell is the Cattle Baron. It's locally owned and there are three or four restaurants in various eastern New Mexico towns. One in Roswell, Ruidoso, and Portales (maybe Carlsbad). It's basic American - steaks, seafood, etc. with a huge salad bar. Good food, reasonable and high quality in a small town. I'm from Albuquerque, so maybel someone out in eastern NM has more suggestions. Enjoy!
