Restaurants in Santa Fe

Based on a visit to Santa Fe this past weekend I want to update some negative comments I made some weeks ago about the Coyote Cafe. The differences between my experience last year and this were pronounced. This time, the dining room staff was excellent -- cordial, knowledgeable, and impressively efficient (rather than aloof and inattentive). Even the decor has brightened -- new paint and richly colored new fabric covering for the banquettes. And the food was first-rate. The Caesar salad was perfect: crisp inner leaves of Romaine, bathed just enough in silky sauce of motuh-filling flavor (paired well with a glass of the house chardonnay, a Ventana). Achiote coated salmon, grilled to a turn, was superb with a bottle of Kistler pinot noir. The salmon was served with a melange of roasted bell pepper strips tossed with olives, a combination new to me that was a delight of contrasting flavors.

A dinner at Escalera was, if anything, even better. And a lunch at Geronimo provided such wonderful and complex flavors that a dineer the next night was a bit disappointing, though still quite good. The most highly rated restaurant in town (we were told), at the Inn of the Anasazi, was not as good as the meals we had at the other three, although our room and the service at the Inn itself could not have been better.

Coyote Cafe (Mark Miller) - a howling good place
Santa Cafe
Pasquals

Traditional Santa Fe New Mexican cooking in a lovely outdoor setting: Rrancho de Chimayo (outside Santa Fe)

Pasquals for breakfast! Try the Caffe Latte!
Inn of the Anazasi for a lovely (expensive) supper Last time I was at Coyote, the food wasn't up to par. Santa Fe's great...enjoy

As an alternative, try the Inn of the Anasazi for breakfast. I had duck hash with green chiles and poached eggs. Hands down the best breakfast I've ever had. Also, I enjoyed the Pink Adobe for dinner.
