Mexican:

They must (MUST MUST MUST) go to the Shed. It's located just off the Plaza and it is an institution. Only open for lunch. Get there early or you'll miss out on the fabulous lemon souffle. If you like hot food, get a #6. Blue corn enchiladas and posole. The BEST. Good sangria too.

Josie's (might be Josey's) Also some of the best "New Mexican" food you'll ever have. Fabulous tamales. Wonderful apricot pie.

The general store in Tesuque. About 15 minutes outside of Santa Fe. Yummy.

Rancho de Chimayo. About 45 minutes (ask in town) outside of Santa Fe. It's good food and a nice drive. You'll also see several roadside stands selling chile powder which you must bring back (freezes well for long term storage) because I've never found any chile powder wuite this good - even in "mexican" groceries.

There are Mexican restaurants all over town, but those are the absolute top of my list - and I've been going to Santa Fe since I was nine...

Other good places:

The Pink Adobe is a big favorite. The steak dunigan is to die for. They seel a recipe book from the restaurant that's a must (Cooking with a Silver Spoon by Rosalea) Lunch has a different menu but it's very good. Poulet Marengo is another one of their specialities.

La Traviatta (I think that's the name. It's near the plaza.) Wonderful Italian food. It was there last winter. Hope it's still open.

This just brushes the surface, but IMHO it would not be a trip to Santa Fe without lunch at the Shed and dinner at the Pink Adobe. Liz

Great debate about the very best NEW MEXICAN (different that mexican). My vote is La Tartulia (need reservations in advance). Other suggestions include Tomasita's (very hot) and Jimmy's Tiny's (not at all fancy - basically a locals hangout).

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to E Mail me.
