Its BYOB, the place is candlelit, and the food is outstanding. I can't remember the name though - its been a while since I've been there. Michigan is a long haul from NJ....

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You might try Cullinary Renessaince, Mectuchin or The Frenchtown Inn, Frenchtown, NJ (about 45 minutes from Middlesex) on the PA border. Enjoy!

The only caution I add is that they do have a wine license, but only to serve wines from the Renault Winery. (The same person owns both the hotel and the winery.) However, you can bring your own wine, as well. It's an actual Victorian-era hotel (more like an inn, really) too. Make it an overnight trip! (about 45 minutes from Middlesex county) Other romantic places with good food in Monmouth and Ocean counties include: Neil's in Brick (also BYO), Mumford's in Long Branch (BYO), The Old Mill Inn in Spring Lake Heights, The Bluffs in Bay Head Tracy

Reservations are a must. They don't have a liquor license but you can buy good wine next door and bring it in (they have buckets glasses, and will pour) Enjoy! Olga
