I second the recommendation for the Mad Batter - sort of. I was there with my family a month or so ago and everything we had was excellent, although the atmosphere was a bit lacking (it's probably better on the porch) and I don't think I would call it reasonable. However, both my husband and my mother had a very rich crab dish and were both violently ill afterwards. The other three members of the party were fine, so make of it what you want.

Although it has been many, many years since I've been there, Maureen's used to be excellent. The Washington Inn is also very good. The Lobster House just outside Cape May has great seafood and is a more informal, family type place. The Pilot House on the Mall is also pretty good and more informal. The Top of the Marque has also been recommended to me but I've never been there.

For ice cream (an important part of any trip I make to the beach ;-)), Uncle Charley's on the Mall is pretty good, but Springer's in Stone Harbor is really worth the drive.

A few places I have been in recent years that I would not recommend: the dining room at Congress Hall (I forget what it's called) and Alexander's.
