Try the Knife and Fork. It's in the southern part of A.C.

Nope,no more Capt. Starns or Hackneys. There is still good seafood at the Knife and Fork and Dock's.

Try Abie's Oyster bar. I thought it was a little high priced but the food was good.

The White House is the place you remember. One of the best places in the whole Philadlephia area (and therefore in the world) to get HOAGIES.

I'm salivating to think of it!

Ive found lots of good food in AC.The trick is to get away from the
casinos.People gamble foolishly in hopes of getting a comp for mostly tasteless coffee shop food.Or they gamble really foolishly to get a gourmet room comp(Hey,I lost 50 thou but Im eating well).Id rather play the games my way and look for my own sustenance. So,when its time to eat,I get off the boardwalk and go in search of good stuff. Here is some of what Ive found.
-Chicken Wings at Pics Pub on Tennessee Ave.A classic hole in the wall
bar with extraordinary wings.Though served in the un-separated Jersey style, the sauce would make a Buffalonian proud.
-Italian at Tucci's on Pacific Ave-excellent veal and one of the
sweetest waitresses around.More good Italian at Mama Motts on New York Ave.
-Seafood at the Knife and Fork, where Atlantic and Pacific converge. This
is a top notch fish house, and the prices are not cheap. But I've never been disappointed.
-Pizza at Baltimore Grille, lower Atlantic Ave.
-Steak.Despite all the fancy casino steakhouses, the best steak in town
is at a tavern called 12 South on Indiana Ave.They get the dry-aged stuff, and it has that elusive beef flavor you never get anymore, and it is as tender as butter.Good jukebox too.
If one must eat at a casino,I recommend the Harbor View at Trumps
Castle.Mostly for the breathtaking sunset view, but the seafood is at least OK,if overpriced.I once had a decent Chinese meal at China Moon,in the Sands. As far as the buffets go,I mostly avoid them, but the best bet is breakfast at the Sultans Feast at the Taj.For 5 bucks you can eat all the passable food you want and drink coffee and juice.
If you want any more opinions, just holler.

Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but for some lunch. or for an extremely casual dinner, head to White House Subs, about 2-3 blocks from the board walk - Their subs and cheesesteaks exceed most any found in Philadelphia - White House is an Atlantic City Institution and judging by the the autographed photos that line the wall, just about everybody who plays the casinos makes it to the White House at least once when they're in town.

Enjoy.

I'm from atlantic city, and there are very few good restaurants. I think the Knife and Fork Inn is overrated. The casino restaurants are unpleasant, but carry high-quality hotel food, especially the steak houses, such as Resorts Internationals Camelot. For real regional food, the best you can do is head to Angelo's Fairmount Tavern, on Georgia and Fairmount (i think) and order the Veal Parmigan, which is the best i have had. The clam sauce isn't too bad, but you would do better at Angeloni's for that, and for their spectacular mussels. For Chinese food, Lai Lai seafood restaurant in Ventnor, a few minutes downbeach, is the best chinese food in teh state bar none; it rivals the best of Mott Street.

Just got back from Atlantic City and it's pretty dismal. But, as with just about anywhere there are several places that stand out. Girasoles is a new Italian place and excellent! Also, I would recommend "Saigon" for outstanding Vietnamese. It's a BYO and finding a liquor store that carries decent beer can be a trying experience.
