Hi foodies, Well I had a nice time in Portsmouth. It is a very nice little city. Thanks to those who sent me advice. We ate twice at The Stockpot which had pretty good food at low to moderate prices and an informal waterfront atmosphere that I was looking for. The Chili (special that night) was outstanding, the Seafood Chowder was pretty good, the Paella was not very good although a lot of people seemed to be ordering it. I am used to extremely high quality paella with lots of saffron and shrimp and clams and the works (which of course would not be $9.95), this stuff was mostly just mussels and yellow rice. They served a bit of the juice (white wine) the mussels were steamed in and it tasted pretty bad. I make steamed mussels a lot and I would really have to try very hard to make that wonderful potion taste bad. My wife had meatloaf which was okay. Another meal was at the Muddy River Smoke House (I am a big bbq fan). I like the atmosphere as I am a Blues Music lover. I had the Chicken/Ribs/Pulled Pork Combo. It was all very good The side of garlic potatoes was so-so. Prices here are moderate. Nice bar to wait at up front and great beer selection. My wife had beef tenderloin which was cooked perfectly and very tender. My daughter had a chicken caeser salad which was fine I am told. I had an appy of the "Award Winning Chili". It was made with big chopped chunks of beef that had obviously been heavily smoked and had an awesome flavor. But the darn chili had hardly any spicy flavor. It could have been so good but I could not believe how bland it was! Come on, make with the peppers. I make and eat a lot of very hot food, and maybe I am spoiled living in the south and all, but even my wife agreed that it could have used some major kicking up. I would go back to both places though, they each have a nice feel. All this just my opinoins, your mileage may vary.
