We lived in St. Louis from 1986-1989, and favored the following places:

The Red Sea, in U City on Delmar, an Ethiopian place with great vegeterian entrees as well as others. WE ate there every Friday night for almost two years, usually for less than $15 for two.

The Sunshine Cafe, in the Central West End on Euclid. Good food, nice ambiance. Mostly vegetarian.

I think one of the best Lebanese restaurants in the country is... is... I'm blocking on the name, but it's also on Delmar in the U City Loop, a block down from the Red Sea. Really terrific food, many vegetarian entrees. Their Garlic Pita cannot be beat.

That would be Saleem's. Their falafel can't be beat. Also, Brandt's opened up a cafe in the back of their health food store about a year ago. They're also on Delmar. I never got a chance to try it while I was living there, but I heard it was pretty good.

By the way, the U City Loop area is approximately 6200-6700 Delmar Boulevard in University City, a suburb of St. Louis approximately six miles due west of downtown, just north of Washington University.
