Here are a few suggestions (what part of town will you be in?): Anywhere on the Hill for Italian Nobu, Seki (Japanese) S & P Oyster (seafood) Redel's (sp?) there are also some good restaurants in the Central West End, but I don't remember any specific ones. Hope this helps. Nonetheless, I will second all of Audrey's recommendations, slightly revise her Chinese/Italian prognostication, and add a few of my own. For better-than-standard Italian (cucina rustica) -- Trattoria Marcella on Watson Road. Hong Kong Chinese -- Summer Palace on Olive west of 270. "Hanging duck" Chinese -- Royal Chinese Barbecue on Olive east of 170. Classic French, not too pricey, in an elegant 19th century former warehouse -- Reserve 1867 on North Main in Saint Charles. Funky Brazilian -- Yemanja Brasil on Pestalozzi at Missouri, right near the A-B brewery in South St. Louis. Caribbean/Southwestern: Hot Locust Cantina, close to Union Station (20th and Locust). Interesting new American in a fabulous Park Avenue style apartment ground floor: Turvey's on the Green in the Central West End. And lord forgive me, but I'm very high on the Top of the Riverfront, the revolving restaurant atop the Regal Hotel downtown, which recently redid its menu to a "Mississippi River Valley" cuisine. However, when Dick D. wrote this: >>For a dessert orgy, try Cyrano's in Richmond Heights near Clayton >>and Big Bend. he hit the nail on the head. Great back then and I'm glad to hear it's still great. Cherries Jubilee for two, flamed at tableside in copper, gets my vote as move romantic treat on a date. Cyrano's serves regular food, too, and I also fondly remember their little roast beef sandwiches, served in pairs on white buns that were sort of dusty with flour. --Janet Wintermute Adelphi, MD There's *nothing* like Cyrano's in the Nation's Capital....
