Near Wash U., there are two major dining areas with many restautants.

One is the "Central West End" which is my old neighborhood. Dozens of restaurants along and just off a street named Euclid. Euclid is one block east of Kingshighway (a major N/S artery) and runs north from the Barnes/Jewish/Childrens (BJC) Hospital complex at Kingshighway and I-40/64. One of may favorites is Bar Italia at Euclid and Maryland (NW corner).

There is also an area north of Wash U. called "The Loop" which runs west of Skinker Ave. on Delmar Blvd a the border of St. Louis City and University City. Very electic area with many ethnic restaurants and a good arts scene.

A little further south of Wash U. is "The Hill" which is the old Italian section of St. Louis. Many good Italian restaurants in this area, and they run from inexpensive to high end. Gian Peppe's is an old favorite of mine. The area is just west of the intersection of Kingshighway and Shaw. There is also a great Irish pub at that intersection named O'Connells - very good pub food.

All of these areas are within a 10 minute drive of the university. Hope this helps.
