A must in St. Louis is a trip to the Hill (Italian section of town) located in South St.Louis city. There is an abundance of wonderful restaurants there including cheap good food (Rigazzi's) to excellant moderately priced food (Zia's Cunettos, and Mama Campisi's) to wonderful elegant dining (Dominics or Giovanni's) Kemoll's (sp?) downtown has wonderful Italian food as well. Near Union Station is a place called The Tap Room which is a Micro-Brewery with excellant food as well. Big Sky (Webster Groves area) and the Lynch Street Bistro (Near the Loop) have excellant food as well. A great steak in a casual atmosphere can be found at Sam's Steak house near Grant's farm. (You'll feel like Fred Flintstone when they bring your meal!) For Thai food, my favorite place is The King and I located on South Grand. Oh yeah! Don't forget to get a concrete from Ted Drew's - they are to die for!

Wow!! Not only am I hungry now, but homesick too! Hope this helps!

Jeff,

Easily my favorite in KC is Cafe Allegro (on W. 39th near KU Med Centre): stunning Calif/fresh cuisine w/ Italian/Oriental influences and and fantastic wine list. Expensive.

Jeff,

I second the recommendation for Cafe Allegro. Excellent food, even if the price is relatively high. Worth every penny.

In fact, many of the restaurants along the W. 39th Street corridor are excellent as well as those within the first couple blocks of E. 39th St. as well. (FYI, distinction between E. 39th and W. 39th can be found at Main Street. Anything E. of Main is obviously going to have an E. 39th St. address. Anything W. of Main is W. 39th.) Might I also suggest Boulevard Cafe and Indian Oven along the same corridor. I work at KU Med so I generally get to sample things in the area when time allow.

I would also suggest anything along Southwest Blvd from Rainbow Blvd on the Kansas side to around Holmes on the south end of downtown KCMO. Many excellent Mexican/Hispanic restaurants in that area. Good bbq on the Kansas side as well in the same corridor.

Westport is also a great place to eat. Classic Cup and Harry's Bar and Tables are my favorites. Beware, however, as these places are generally busy, especially on Friday and Saturday!!!

I grew up here in KC and have moved back after being away at school in Indiana for the last 8 years. It is sooooo good to be back!!!

TOTO, I think we're in Kansas again!
