Southwest/Cuban/chile-inspired stuff, several excellent veggie concoctions. Entrees about $8-14. Neat old warehouse space. Good high-moderate Italian at Premio's (8th street? Gateway Mall building); good rotating selection of fresh-ingredients-based "new American" at Harry's (about 20th and Market, just west of Union Station). Downtown itself empties out a lot at night, especially if there's no ballgame -- consider taking a short cab ride about 1 mile south to Soulard, a 19th century neighborhood with a concentration of bistro-style restaurants. Some interesting ones include Norton's, Soulard's and the Ninth Street Abbey (the last one is in a church). Have fun -- there's lots of good food here. joe bonwich food writer the riverfront times, st. louis [email removed]
