I'm not your person, since I'm one of those "husbands," but might I suggest that you post to the stl.dining NG? I would be interested in sharing opinions about restaurants. My wife and I just got back from Zuzu, an authentic Mexican place in Clayton. She loves it. I like it OK, but the black bean puree is downright delicious. Other favorites include Hacienda (I've eaten there hundreds of times, and the food was ALWAYS good), The Fatted Calf (for burgers), The Mahogany Grill (in the Omni Majestic Hotel), Olympia (Greek food), and I really like Lou Boccardi's, though my wife thinks that the place is too grungy, and won't eat there anymore. My wife recommends Cardwell's (Plaza Frontenac), and my better-off friends say that Harvest is the best place for special occasion dining. It is very pricey. If you're ever shopping at the Galleria, Pizza USA (formerly First Federal Frank & Crust Co.), in their food court, has the best pizza in St. Louis. Real NY Style. For sandwiches, the best I've ever had are from Rumbolo's, on The Hill, roast beef. The Joe Boccardi's in Eureka has--according to my wife--great pasta tuutu-mare, and I enjoyed whatever I ordered (a beef pasta of some sort, I forget exactly what). Marnatti's (Shrewsbury) is also good, though I once ordered a beef marsala that clearly had too much wine. The chicken marsala has been consistently good. King Doh (Kirkwood) gets high praises from friends, especially their seafood dishes, and I enjoy it because they serve good duck. The service is friendly too. Also, don't overlook the South City Diner, unless you are like me, and can't tolerate cigarette smoke. The food is good and the atmosphere is unique. I enjoyed Giovanna's Little Place when they were in Maplewood, but haven't been there since they moved to West County. Jimmy's on the Park is a favorite of my mother and father in-law's. My wife often goes there with them. I have never been to The Viking (Sunset Hills) for dinner, but their Sunday brunch is good, leading me to think that their dinner entrees are probably good as well. The Tap Room features great beer, made on the premises, and I've heard that the food is also good. I discovered quite a few of these places through the Entertaiment coupon books that are sold by non-profits. Buy one or more of them next Fall. The $20 you spend on the book will soon be recovered in discounts at some very good restaurants, and there are coupons for fast food too, plus a coupon for The Body Shop, 4 coupons for $5 off a $50 Shop'n Save gift certificate (which, if used, pay off the entire cost of the book!), hotel discounts, etc. I hope that you will post about your dining experiences to stl.dining. The group has been pretty dead lately, and perhaps you could contribute to reviving it.
