Smoke Master out in Eureka. Seems they also have a carryout business in some Dierbergs stores too. If you are in the airport, there is a little gift shop just before you get down to luggage claim. They have barbecue sauce for sale and in that area is a free handout on que that has the addresses of Smoke Master locations on it. I found it by accident last week when I got stuck there waiting for luggage for about 3 hours.

There is a place out on Manchester in either Kirkwood or Warson Woods (can't remember which but they're next door to each other) but I can't remember the name. It's Pit Master or somesuch. Haven't eaten there and can't comment on it. It's served cafeteria style.

KC Masterpiece has a couple of restaurants there and both are not bad at all. They're always packed so go early if you go.

The really best places are all backyard type joints in neighborhoods a stranger would be best off avoiding.

But, ignoring Q for a moment, the best chili is OT Hodges, go to The Hill for Italian and the local delicacies are toasted ravioli and gooey butter cake. <grin>

I went to a place called Clancy's that was pretty good, when I was out there is December (Brrrr!). They claimed they did a slow wood smoke. Honestly the lights were so dim I couldn't see color of the meat. The ribs had a nice smokey flavor. The brisket wasn't so smokey, but it was almost pull apart tender. They don't overdue the sauce either, but you get a six pack of finishing sauces (maybe there was only four) that you can add at the table. What I remember the most was they used a rub that was so savory I could just taste it all the way back to my hotel. Here's the address from some Dine
Online web page:

Clancy's Rib Co. - 11660 Administration Dr (near Page & Schuetz), 63146 - 432-2611

Have a good time in St. Louis!

Super Smokers is pretty good for restaurant bbq. Bandera BAR B Q is pretty good also. The reason I like those 2 is because they do not put sauce on the meat. To me that says they are not trying to hide anything. And it tastes great.
