Here are my favorites for a few genres. Mostly South City, but hey, I live there:

Neighborhood Italian: Gian-Tony's on the Hill (Macklind and Wilson, I think). Slightly Nicer Italian: (tie) Trattoria Marcella (Watson Rd.), Brazie's (Hampton) Mexican: Pueblo Solis on Hampton Bar Dining: Seamus McDaniel's Neighborhood Fish: R. L. Steamer's (Tamm Ave, Dogtown) Cheap Steak: Tucker's (12th & Russell, Soulard) Breakfast/Late Night: Chris' Pancake House (Watson Rd)

See my other post today for recommended Indian, Thai, Chinese, and Japanese restaurants.

You can't go wrong with Riddle's Penultimate Cafe, just down the street from the Bloob. The food there is always fresh and innovative, very American, but not a slave of trends, and the portions are good.

If you are out in the Creve Couer/Chesterfield area I would recommend

Paul Manno's Cafe at Olive and 141
Yia Yia's on Olive just north of Highway 40

In St. Charles try

Cafe Beignet on S. Main Street

For coffee and a healthy lunch - Kaldi's on DeMun
