Hot spots are not necessarily good, but here goes: Buca's - one of the hotter Twin Cities restaurants, with locations in St. Paul and Minneapolis. Huge, oversized portions of decent Italian food. Luci's - one of the better Italian restaurants, in St. Paul on Cleveland. Cafe Latte - great salads, bread, and desserts. In St. Paul on Grand. Table of Contents - heard good things about this place. In St. Paul on Grand. Shannon Kelly's - Downtown St. Paul pub with basic pub food, but they brew their own beer! The Shamus's Stout is outstanding. On 6 and Wabasha. Tulips - Nice little restaurant with a small but well done menu. On Selby in St. Paul. The Dakota - nice mid-west cuisine restaurant with live jazz. Bandana Square in St. Paul. W. A. Frost - heard good things about this pub/restaurant on cathedral hill in St. Paul. Broder's Pasta Bar - great pasta joint in sw Minneapolis. Small, long wait usually, but worth it. Bring your own wine!! Soba's - On Lyndale in south Minneapolis. great food in a nice cafe setting. Other to try include Sherlock's Home (great real english ale brewpub), Randi's Tres Cafe (overlooking Loring Park), the Loring Park Cafe, Mudpies (vegetarian), the New French Cafe (Minneaoplis warehouse district), and a lot more. Hope this gives you some ideas. I ate at 'Sri lanka Curry House' a few year ago in Minneapolis, and that was THE hottest food I've ever had. (don't know about hot 'spots' though...) VERY GOOD too, but they really mean HOT! I eat very hot food in general, and this is the only one in the US so far that I have been to that was actually almost too hot. But definitely worth a visit though, food is very, very good, IMHO. *** Just my teaste, not USWest NVG's... ****

For HOT Food in St. Paul, try Rum Mit Thai on St. Peter and about 11th Street downtown. Small, kind of dumpy place with GREAT Thai food at reasonable prices. The last few times I've gone it's been more crowded -- I guess it's finally been discovered. Carrivan Serai is also very good, very HOT, and it's worth going (on Cleveland Ave and Highland Parkway in St. Paul) for the "Sultan's Palace" decor. The curry (chicken and lamb) are both good, but do order extra saffron rice -- you'll need it! Elizabeth
