Sara,

You're in luck - there are some good Mexican restaurants here. Of course, they're not very close to the Maul of America, but they're worth the trip (about 10 miles away).

Note that these are authentic Mexican taquerias, not Chi-Chi's so-called "mexican"-style food. Also, all but one are QUITE informal restaurants (read: holes-in-the-wall). They're so cheap that you can save your pennies for that one big splurge (for which I recommend Giorgio's...)

Anyway, take 494 west to Hwy 3 north. After 4-5 miles, exit on Concord Street and go left (west). Drive two blocks and you're in Mexican- restaurant heaven. You can eat at one of the following places:

      Juanita's, 201 Concord St, St.Paul, 290-2511
Tiny cafe with tacos, enchiladas, and
carne asada; also Menudo. Run by Juanita.
      El Amanecer, 194 Concord St, St.Paul, 291-0758
            Mom-and-Pop restaurant with tacos, enchiladas,
chili con puerco, etc. Try the tamales!
El Jacal, 197 Concord St, St.Paul
            Very casual, cafeteria-style; specializes
            in savory mixtures with tortillas on the side;
some employees might not speak much English.
      Boca Chica, 11 Conconrd St, St.Paul, 222-8499
The fanciest place on the street, with the
largest selection. This is a real restaurant
with a liquor licence, even. Quite popular,
delicious food. Music on weekends, I think.
Boca Chica Taco House, 407 S Wabasha St, St.Paul, 222-8226
Take-out tacos at the intersection of Concord
            and Wabasha.
      La Esperanza, 140 Concord St, St.Paul, 225-8744
            Never tried it...

There's also a Mexican grocery-deli with take-out dishes (tamales!) and bakery items, next door to El Amanecer. All in all, this is a great neighborhood for Mexican food fans.

                        Enjoy your stay!

I meant 494 EAST. Although one can get to Hwy 3 on west 494, it would involve quite a long, circular route through the suburbs of Mpls/St.Paul...

Come to think of it, better check a map to verify *any* directions I give.

                              Sorry,
