Try the Roma Cafe, near Eastern Market. Best Italian food in the state... Iacocca, Sinatra, and Hoffa (used to) love the place. Get a table near the bar.. Grat pictures of Hoffa and "associates" onthe wallls. And the food! Cheers, Brent [email removed]

The Roma *is* an excellent choice. Some other faves:

Greek: Laikon's on Monroe (in Greektown)
Pizza: Buddy's (Conant at McNichols, Detroit-style square pizza) Spanish: Casa Espanol (Michigan Av. near Livernois) Arabic: Steve's Back Room (Kelly Rd nr. 7 Mile Rd) Polish: Several good places in Hamtramck Mexican: Several good places in Corktown Kosher: Breadbasket Deli (Greenfield at Lincoln in Southfield)

It's been a while since I've been to Detroit, but try the Cadieux Cafe. It's a hard-core Belgian restaurant, not fancy but very good, in a residential area. Call ahead and see when they have feather bowling, a sport that must be seen to be believed. Try any of the mussel dishes.
