I just returned from a week in Lansing/East Lansing. We were looking for housing for the fall and staying in a motel, so we had an opportunity to sample several restaurants! I liked the Travellers Club in Okemos (Okemos Rd.), funky but reasonably good food and a menu that can only be described as diffuse. There are two pho houses (Vietnamese noodle soups), Saigon and Tran's, both on Grand River. I preferred Saigon, my partner Tran's; take your pick. I would not recommend Thai Kitchen on Grand River; if you want Thai you would do better to run into Lansing for the Bangkok. El Azteco ("el az") has a big following in those parts for Mexican food. It's OK, but more gringoized than not. Beggar's Banquet is another popular spot: again, OK, not too expensive, but not inspiring either. Nouveau bar food. Woody's Oasis on Harrison offers tasty, inexpensive Lebanese lunches. (The samosas are great, too.) Since I will be moving in a couple of months I will be looking forward to the responses from more seasoned Lansingites.
