If you like Greek, theres a section of downtown called "Greek Town". Many good restaurants there. Also, right down the street is Fishbones, a great Cajun place. Your best bet to get there would be to hop on the People Mover. One of its stops is Greek Town. You can then get back on when done and head back to the convention center. Hope this helps.

Dunno where the convention center is but I really liked the Dearborn Inn. Reeks of atmosphere also.

Greek Town is lovely, but then so is Mexican Town, down by Tiger Stadium... Bagley Avenue has some of the BEST Mexican food you have ever tasted - from the little restaurants like Evies Tamales to Mexican Village (my personal favorite). There is a little bakery called El Fogon where you go in with a tray and tongs and buy "Mexican Bread" which is sweet bread filled with things like pumpkin and coconut.. to die for! There are also some legendary places in Detroit like Carl's Chop House. Enjoy your visit to Motown... there are a zillion little Coney Islands that I'm sure would be happy to sell you a great cup of coffee.

Our favorite is Jimmy Schmidt's Rattlesnake. It's on the river.

As infrequent visitors to the area, we try to go there at least once a year. He tries to serve essentially "American" cuisine, emphasizing midwestern products. The wine list is adequate, and the food is great. Schmidt may be criticized for targeting a specific market, he has several other restaurants. I liken him to "junior" Rich Melman here in the Chicago area. But, I love the place.

Hope you have fun.

Regards, Jim

I love the Cadieux cafe' (pronounced Cadjew) on the east side off I-94. They are a Belgian sports bar with the only feather bowling outside of Belgium (Similar to bocci ball). The steamed mussel dinner comes with a huge bowl of fresh mussels with garlic butter. They have a good beer menu, and festival seating. Lots of bike racing memorabilia too.
