The best restaurant on Cape Cod, and one of the best in Massachusetts, is Chillingsworth, in Brewster. I've been there periodically over the past several years and have yet to have a bad meal; on the contrary I've had many delightful experiences. The food (tending toward French/Continental) is thoroughly excellent. I particularly recommend whatever fruit souffle they have for dessert; you have to think ahead on this, since it needs to be ordered at the beginning of the meal, but it's worth the planning. The service is also excellent; on the very few occasions when they've actually screwed something up, they've handled the situation with such grace, efficiency, and tact that my companions were sometimes unaware that anything had gone wrong.

Another good possibility is the Red Pheasant, in Dennis, which is more "creative American" and has a good wine selection.

Where in West Yarmouth will you be staying?

Last summer, I spent a few days at the Cape and had one of the best meals of my life at a restaurant called Chillingsworth. It's rather expensive, but you get a great five course meal. I would highly recommend it. Make sure to call and get reservations well in advance.

My favorite *food* on the cape is at Sal's Place in Provincetown; however, the new owner is a complete a**hole, and the last two times I've eaten there he's come out to the (gorgeous) deck to yell at customers. So watch out.

If you can get there on Friday, their Friday special is a stuffed squid that is out of this world.

For a less expensive, but basically very good classic Cape Cod-style dinner, try Captain Higgins in Wellfleet, which is owned by my aunt and her family :->. On weekends they tend to have interesting specials, but during the weeks it's pretty much standard fare, really fresh fish, shellfish and lobster. The best thing I've had there was a grilled tuna sandwich on focaccia with a sweet pepper relish.

Have a great time!
Andy
