My wife and I were in Boston (from the UK) a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed
some restaurants that I haven't seen mentioned in other lists in this group.
Here are some notes for those who are interested:
1. For breakfast: Pop's Place in the Copley Square Hotel. Wonderful 1960's
diner feel to the setting. Mixture of counters and tables. Friendly
staff. Good classical American breakfast menu. Very reasonable prices.
2. For lunch: Fine Arts restaurant in the Museum of Fine Arts. I notice that
several Boston restaurants are described as being 'eclectic'. I'm not
quite sure what that means, but I have a feeling that this restaurant is
such! There are dishes which are chosen to reflect a particular exhibition
(in this case Mark Tansey, and therefore West Coast/ Southwest). Very
pleasant setting especially if you can get a table near the window. Good
starters of two smoked salmons and ceviche; my wife's lemon roast chicken
was very good (and enough for a picnic the next day!). My venison chilli
in corn bread was a bit monotonous, but OK in smaller quantities. Could
have done with something to offset it. Excellent wine list, some as low
as $17.00.
3. For brunch: Top of the Hub (52nd floor of the Prudential building).
Good classical Sunday brunch. Interesting cheeses. Good value (about
$18.00) and wonderful views. Quite a reasonable wine list. Frascati
good value.
4. For dinner: J C Hillary's on Boylston. We had prime rib which was the
real thing. Excellent quality meat cooked as requested. Especially
nice to eat outdoors on a warm evening and watch the world go by. Very
interesting (and drinkable!) Washington State wines on the list.
Also went to Turner's in the Westin Hotel. We found it to be as good as
everyone says. Wonderful clam chowder and bouillabaise.
Didn't have the patience to wait for 1.5 hrs to get a table at Legal Seafood
(Prudential building) -- went to J C Hillary's instead!

: Also went to Turner's in the Westin Hotel. We found it to be as good as : everyone says. Wonderful clam chowder and bouillabaise. I love Turners, partly because I stay at the Westin usually when I am in Boston, though this time I stayed at the Lenox and loved it. Turners has outstanding chowder, but the crab cakes are also deserving of a try. Last time I was there, I had a steamed dish, prepared in a bamboo steamer, with several types of vegetables and seafood, and 3 dipping sauces...outstanding!
