The Blue Ribbon Barbecue has some great barbecue, and their dream bars
are addictive, I know. %^D A good habanero hot sauce and a very
 tasty apple chipotle chutney.

 1375 Washington St,
 West Newton, Mass.

 Is this Newtonville?

I've always wondered about this place, it's been there for decades and
appears to serve middle-eastern / turkish fare in a dinner house
setting. Anyone eaten there? I guess I should just go and find out.

Mediocre is about right, I've stopped in there, can't imagine why I
would again unless it was the only thing open and I wanted a quick
bite (not awful or anything, but like he said, mediocre bar food, one
step up from eating in a bowling alley.)

You left out Cabot's, the sort of corny, old-fashioned (well, 60's
style) ice cream parlor on Washington St. They serve food which is
pretty good in a diner sort of style (burgers, club sandwiches,
mac+cheese, usually a special du jour or two), and BREAKFAST ALL DAY,
which is what I'll go there for, eggs, pancakes, belgian and regular
waffles, pretty good corned beef hash and eggs actually. And their ice
cream is superb, try the pistachio (you'll say "*wow*! pistachios! i
can really taste the pistachios! why do we buy that other crap?")
with their bittersweet hot fudge which should be labelled as a drug. I
was skeptical of the whole chocolate/endorphin thing until I ate some
of Cabot's bittersweet hot fudge. (they also have an extensive
selection of low-fat frozen yoghurt and mixins etc if you go for that
kind of thing, and all kinds of "fountain" treats, parfaits, sundaes,
ice cream sodas, massive sundae-like things with 40 scoops of ice
 cream, ice cream cakes, etc.)

Definitely yummy. They will take lunch reservation, but not dinner
reservation, which means I no longer try to go there at
dinner. *Ridiculous* waits for a local restaurant. They will do
 take-out, however.

Their bread is wonderful and they have a great chickpea-garlic-other
things dip that they serve with it.

My favorite entree is the Fettucine Vernazza, but since I figured out
how to make it at home, the bread is what brings us to Appetite these
 days.

I do recommend it, but suggest trying lunch first (better prices, too).

I think that the name changed a few years ago to "Fat Happy" or something
like that, but with the same exact menu, and then changed again more recently.
I only went to Sally Lings once--as I said, OK food at VERY high prices.

  I
: always liked the Seven Star Mandarin Restaurant that was a couple
: blocks away, but I haven't been to either in several years. The food
: at the Seven Star was always good, and the price reasonable though the
: portions were adequate, they were not huge. It's located at the top of
: the triangle that Alden Merril (that great cheesecake place) faces.

Alden Merril has moved to Langley Road, opposit the big parking lot. and
is now a coffee shop/lunch/dessert kind of place. They serve excellent coffee
 from Armeno's in Northborough.
