The Bay Tower at 60 State Street is a truly beautiful
place to have an evening dinner. Very Expensive. Very good but
 not great food.

Most romantic? My vote would be for Aujourd'hui at the Four Seasons Hotel
in downtown Boston. Wonderful ambiance--really cushy, and the tables are
far enough apart so that you and your sweetie can have an intimate
conversation. The service is impeccable, and the food, though a tad
pretentious, is excellent. Quite expensive--but worth it if it's a
 "special" date.

I have to admit that I was rather disappointed with Aujourd'hui the two
times I've been there. The ambiance *is* very cushy, but in a very old-
money kind of way that made me feel self-consciously young (as a mid-
twentysomething, I probably am younger than their average clientele.) I
also found the food, while very good, to not be outstanding, which is
what I would expect from $40 entrees. (By comparison, I think the food
at Olives is outstanding, though I wouldn't call it a romantic restaurant
 by any means.)

Mamma Marias in the North End near the Paul Revere House has an excellent
reputation, great service, and romantic setting. Ask for the second floor
on the porch overlooking the square.
