How about Green Papaya on Winter St. just off 128/95? It's in the
strip mall with Wine Cellar of Silene and Bertucci's (or you could go
to Bertucci's!). Green Papaya has nice Thai food with many lunch
 specials.

Yep, Demos, 146 Lexington St, Waltham.
Yep, the branch of the Watertown Demos, but much bigger and newer.

 Johnie's is a deli/pizzaria across the street from Kev's Quick-Mart,
near Radio Shack and Starcrafts. They have wonderful calzones,
some innovative pizza combinations, a "breakfast pie" which is
sort of a low, wide quiche, hot and cold subs, juices and sodas.
They keep a few days worth of newspapers handy, in case you miss
 what happened yesterday in Doonesbury.

Food was fine, nothing spectacular, but my girlfriend and I were
probably 30 years younger than the average patron at the time.

(Picture "Jimmy's" in Arlington, and you'd be close.)

If brute force doesn't work, you're not using enough brute force.

My wife works near there. People in her office report that Gourmet Farms
Kitchen was sold and it is not as good as it was under the original ownership.

A much closer and better takeout sandwich shop is reportedly the Marrett
Square Deli (formerly Glenn Eric's). This is on Marrett Rd (Rt 2A) across
from the Mobil station, near the corner of Waltham St.

We haven't used either recently, but this is the general impression my wife
gets from the lunchies in her office.

If you are looking for Greek-style pizza and subs (grinders), I'd suggest B&F
pizza on Lake St. Head toward Waltham center on Lexington St. Pass Wal-Lex
and turn right after the bowling alley. B&F is perhaps 1/2 mile on the right,
 just after the ball field.

just tried it today, it's pretty good. they make their own turkey and french
bread. decent chowder today. no seats, just standing tables. :-( must be
 some zoning issue.

there's a nice bakery next door too.

I can recommend two restaurants with a 5+ minute ride.

First is The Chateau. It is good Italian at reasonable prices. I especially
recommend the Toasted Ravioli and the Veal Parmigain. It is a couple of blocks
down School which is one set of lights before Main Street (turn right onto School
 street)..

The second is Demo's. Good Greek food at VERY reasonable prices. They are right
on Lexington Street. It is on the right heading towards Waltham Center.

 Bon appetit
