> Waltham (Downtown) > > E.J.'s Barbeque ($+) [Barbeque] Heres a real winner, NOT! Draft beer in plastic cups, parboiled ribs, chili that tastes like sawdust, and totally empty even at luch time I wonder why? I'm surprised they are still open. Don't go. > Iguana Cantina ($$-) [Tex/Mex] Great Bar drinks. Average gringo bastardization of Mexican food, most of the food tastes like it came from a can but what can you expect? Americans thrive on mediocre food. The place is usually packed. Taco Bell with a larger menu. > New Mother India ($$-) [Indian] Fantastic lunchtime buffet. $5.95 for all you can eat. Usually 2 main dishes and a few sides with a basic salad bar. You can't go wrong here as long as you stay away from the $6 bottles of beer. Drink the water instead and take them to the cleaners. Don't expect to do alot after eating there. Siesta time! > Sadie's ($+) [Barbeque] Ugh! These people put me in the hospital. Slow sloppy service, basic bar food. Burgers and fries are OK. Great draft specials. More a bar than a restraunt. Mostly regulars. > Taqueria Mexico ($+) [Mexican] This is a classic. Probably ate there a hundred times. Dingy dirty but totally authentic. Owners came straight from Mexico City and probably sleep in the kitchen. Fantastic tacos with about 5 varieties, chicken, beef, tounge, steamed, bbq. The burritos are huge, salsa varies with age. I suspect they make up a batch and stretch it as long as they can. But they can be a killer. Mild one day and hotter than hell the next. Super combo plates of everything you can imagine, including Goat cheek if thats your style. Have to buy your beer next door, and the cokes are imported from Mexico. Figure that one out. Best time to go is on a Monday since thats when the owner picks up his produce. Quality tends to vary. I have had plenty of great meals and quite a few that scared me. Not for the squeamish. This ones an adventure. > Waltham (Outlying Areas) > Green Papaya ($$-) [Thai] One of my favorites. Great lunches at a decent price. The quality and service are superb. Best place to go when you want to ward off the winter chill. Lots of spice and the heat scale can rise to infinity. Had the Wild Boar Basil with extra hot pepper WOW! The waitress couldn't stop laughing, and couldn't bring water fast enough. Eventually brought me a whole picture. And by then my mouth was so numb instead of swallowing it like I wanted to, it just ended up running out the corners of my mouth and down my face. The Garlic Pork must have a whole clove in there. This is the place to go if your looking for alot of flavor. Have not had a bad meal there yet. | AmiQWK 2.7 - S/N 0294 | ...
