AC> From: [email removed] (Anthony C Kam) AC> Subject: comments wanted: upstairs at the pudding AC> been there, how's the service? Good, professional but not stiff. AC> How's the ambience? Pretty nice, if you like clubby-looking places. You go up into rooms owned by a hoary old Harvard institution (I think something like half a dozen Presidents were members - look at the tacky "From the Pudding to the Presidency" display on the landing below the restaurant), which are high-ceilinged and romantically lit. The bar is not a real bar, but rather something you'd find at a college function; otoh, it's stocked with good brands, and the wines are well chosen. You'll spend 50 to 80 a person for a meal with a decent wine. The roof garden is very nice, but that's out of season for sure now. AC> What are the signature dishes/desserts/etc. Great dishes: Tuscan clam soup; almost all appetizers and desserts, actually. I haven't been there enough to know if anything is "signature," but the closest I can think of is the fig-marzipan tart, which is out of season now anyway. To avoid: There was a chocolate-pistachio cake that I should have sent back. Also, the risotto that went with the grilled yellowfin tuna was way undercooked. * KingQWK 1.05 # 187 *
