I had one of the best meals of my life at Lydia Shire's
restaurant Biba. It was a nice combination of a unique
menu and great execution. Great service, wonderful decor,
and a very nice, very reasonable wine list. If it's still
good, don't miss it. Bring your $$. I haven't been there
       in 3 years.

Hey 'Stonians, is Jasper's still in business, and is it still
good? That was a neat place, with the emphasis on regional
       cooking at the time.

Jasper's is still around, still $$, and still prepares some of the
best seafood in town. It's on the Waterfront, and if you decide you'd
liek to pay a little less for your meal and get a more casual dining
environment, walk three blocks up to Hanover Street and wait in line for
a table at The Daily Catch. (As a former denizen of the North End, I had the
opportunity to survey a handful of the eateries as my wallet would allow.)

If you've got your heart set on a $$ meal, I'd send you to Hammersley's
Bistro in the South End. Delightful food, absolutely impeccable service
and a pleasing environment. Caveat: you'll need reservations, and you'll need to
reconfirm them the day you plan to dine.

Willing to drive in the area? Then try Dali, a genuine tapas restaurant
on the Cambridge/Somerville line. Sangria, marinated olives, and an incredible
range of wonderfully prepared tapas - plus traditional entrees.
